New Arrival…

Colonial Survey turned up today.  I was a little worried about the apparent tears on the upper edge of the front covers, but It’s no worse than I expected, and even a little better.  A very clean copy too.

The Sorcerer’s House arrived a couple of days ago.  It’s a fantastically presented book – the highest quality hardcover I have ever seen beautifully presented in a velvet (or something like it..) lined tray case.

Picked up a copy of Murray Leinster’s Colonial Survey a couple of days ago too.  Eagerly awaiting that.

Interplantetary Hunter and Invaders from the Infinite arrived today.  Both purchased from the same vendor on eBay, I will use these two books to highlight underhanded practices from eBay sellers.  I’m not going to get too broken up about it, but it is galling when people pull these stunts – the same stunt in both these cases.  Stay tuned for the close-ups on these books.

Another, and more…

Yet another book arrived today: The Seedling Stars by James Blish.  Very good condition.  I picked up another couple last night too: Arthur K. BarnesInterplanetary Hunter and Invaders from the Infinite by John W. Campbell.  I’ve gotten off to a great start in the third quarter.  Cool.

Now all I need to do is work out the lighting for the Close Ups.  I’m loathe to buy a flash unit, but I may have to…

New Arrival

Highways in Hiding arrived a couple of days ago.  It was sent to New Zealand by mistake, my mistake as I didn’t have my shipping addresses straight.  Not the first time that’s happened, but it’s fixed now.  I had a couple of other things to be sent over from NZ as well, so it wasn’t a huge inconvenience.  A set of macro extension tubes for my Pentax 6×7 camera, and several very nice copies of 2000AD of ’77 and ’78 vintage.

Unfortunately I no longer have a DSLR, so I can’t take satisfactory images for Close Ups at present.  Using the Pentax – a medium format film camera – for such a task is extreme overkill.  I might have to borrow one from someone… or buy another.

I have also recently moved house from Gugi-Dong in Seoul to very near Yaksu Station.  At present I’m in temporary accommodation until my permanent place becomes available in a month or so.  Consequently, almost everything is remaining in boxes until then.

Big Fish…

Well, it arrived today.  Science Fiction Terror Tales.  I’m very happy with it and a Gnome Press dream is fulfilled.  I am of course very eager to get the Close Up done, I’ll be photographing it this evening, so expect something in the next few days.

The Martin Greenberg edited Coming Attractions came today.  Brown pages as is usual for this vintage – fantastic condition though.  Some slight foxing on the jacket and a small amount of staining along the edge of one of the boards.  You’ll see it in the Close Up sometime soon (perhaps…).

I got Undersea City in the mail today.   I have a couple issues about the item I received.  Contacted the seller for his reaction to my concerns.  Will let you know when I hear back.

The Judith Merril-edited SF’57: The Year’s Greatest Science Fiction and Fantasy arrived today.  Looks good as described on eBay.  Mighty fine buy for the price, I think.  We’ll have a look at it soon as it came with no jacket protector and I need to photograph it smartly and get it bundled up safely.  I’m looking forward to reading it actually (if I can ever get past Judgment Night…) as it contains another short story from Zenna Henderson and also Ms Merril’s illuminating prefaces to each story.  Check out the Review of SF:’58 to see what I mean.

It’s been a while.  Got a new book today.  Judgment Night by C.L. Moore.  I think by way of a Close Up, I’ll do a side-by-side with Red Jacket Press’s  reprint.  Something different.  I’m looking forward to it.
